Infrastructure Modernization with Amazon ECS
Cloudelligent migrated all school websites to Amazon Elastic Container Service (ECS) to ensure 100% uptime and modernized infrastructure management. ECS became the core service for container management which ensured 100% uptime by leveraging Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) instances as the underlying infrastructure for running ECS tasks. To improve workload efficiency, Cloudelligent also upgraded EC2 instance types, adjusting hardware to better match requirements.
Amazon Relational Database Service (RDS) was established as the backend database which ensured efficient data management and reliability for ECS services, while Amazon Elastic File System (EFS) provided persistent and shared storage for seamless data access.
Autoscaling policies were implemented to dynamically adjust the number of tasks based on demand, with tasks distributed across two public subnets to ensure high availability. Additionally, an Elastic Load Balancer (ELB) was configured to distribute traffic across ECS instances to enhance scalability and security with SSL encryption. To deploy these services, we used a combination of manual setup and Terraform to ensure both precision and scalability in infrastructure management.

Reliable Backup and Restoration Policies
Data continuity was a top priority, and we established robust backup and restoration policies to meet School Webmasters’ needs. Lifecycle policies for hourly and daily snapshots ensured regular data backups. Clumio was integrated as the primary backup tool for Amazon EC2 instances, including Amazon Machine Images (AMI) and Amazon Elastic Block Store (EBS) volumes. We also enabled automated daily backups with a 7-day retention period. This setup facilitated swift data recovery in case of any incidents, protecting critical resources from potential data loss.

Continuous Monitoring and Alerting
Cloudelligent set up comprehensive monitoring and alerting with New Relic to ensure proactive oversight of School Webmasters' AWS infrastructure. Key configurations included Synthetic Monitoring, Infrastructure Monitoring, and Application Performance Monitoring (APM) for both development and production environments. This robust monitoring framework enables real-time alerting, facilitating fast issue detection and enhancing infrastructure reliability.
