How Cloudelligent Successfully Solved Mirvie’s Challenges

Well-Architected Framework Review and Remediations

In-Depth Assessment: Cloudelligent conducted a comprehensive review of Mirvie’s architecture and workloads. We leveraged an AI-powered tool to ensure compliance with the six pillars of the AWS Well-Architected Framework. Our team identified a number of improvements in the areas of security, operations, reliability, and cost optimization. The high-risk issues were quickly addressed by applying architectural best practices to ensure optimal performance.

Operational Excellence: Our team conducted a thorough analysis of Mirvie’s Terraform modules and development account GitLab repositories. This included the creation of Terraform modules to Mirvie's existing infrastructure, built with industry best practices for scalability and reliability. We also reviewed and analyzed the customer’s Amazon S3 buckets to optimize storage management. A tagging strategy has been implemented to enhance resource identification and management. For improved visibility and oversight, Cloudelligent implemented detailed monitoring for Amazon EC2 instances, along with logging and SSL encryption for Amazon S3 buckets.

Enhanced Security Measures

Security: In the realm of security, Cloudelligent has been instrumental in fortifying Mirvie’s AWS environment. This included enabling EBS encryption by default with Customer Managed Keys (CMK) to safeguard data at rest. Cloudelligent also remediated open port configurations within Security Groups to minimize potential attack surfaces. Additionally, unused Security Groups were removed to fortify Mirvie’s network security profile.

Cloudelligent analyzed Amazon GuardDuty findings, associated VPC flow logs, and AWS WAF (Web Application Firewall) configurations to detect and mitigate potential threats. We also created a custom AWS WAF module at the root level for additional security. Furthermore, data retention and deletion policies were established on Amazon S3 buckets to ensure compliance with regulations and Mirvie’s organizational policies.

Reliability: Cloudelligent has ensured the reliability of Mirvie’s services by implementing backup policies for Amazon EC2 instances. This proactive measure safeguards customer data and ensures it can be recovered swiftly and effectively in the event of data loss. Termination protection for critical Amazon EC2 instances was also implemented to prevent accidental termination and ensure business continuity.

Cloud Cost Optimization

Cost Optimization:This was another key area where Cloudelligent provided expertise to Mirvie. We removed orphaned Amazon EBS volumes and Amazon S3 buckets, which were incurring unnecessary costs. Thresholds for AWS Budgets were updated to proactively identify potential cost overruns and allow for informed decision-making.

Cloudelligent enabled Mirvie to bolster their security posture by enabling EBS encryption, remediating security groups vulnerabilities, and optimizing Amazon GuardDuty and AWS WAF configurations. Additionally, custom WAF modules and data lifecycle policies provide robust protection.

Cloudelligent enhanced Mirvie’s operational efficiency by integrating WAF into Mirvie’s existing Terraform module structure and modifying existing modules to align with best practices. Additionally, we helped the customer improve visibility and resource management through tagging strategies and detailed monitoring protocols.

Cloudelligent identified and removed unused resources such as orphaned Amazon EBS volumes and Amazon S3 buckets. Additionally, AWS Budget thresholds were updated for proactive cost control. These measures deliver a more cost-effective cloud environment for our customer.
